How we are

Life goes on after competitions, we all know this. It's just frustrating when everything happens all at once, and this year has been no exception.

We played well at Nationals, super proud of how well we performed. We were stoked as we came off the stage and all thoroughly agreed that our test piece was the best thing since Guiness was sold in cans. The judges may have seen it differently, but we were happy.

Within a short period of time, life came back to bite us in the bum as such.  Personnel changed, leadership changed, the excitement of readjusting our vision hung over us, but we endured. In times such as that, it was easy to let go and just take up yoga or stare at a dry wall. But we kept coming back and stayed on.

For me, I discovered a passion that had remained hidden for most of my Brass Band life, I discovered I liked listening to Brass Band Music. It had always been like tennis, I hated watching it but enjoyed playing it, but listening to some classics like Journey into Freedom and The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea have just kept the passion simmering.

I'm now trying my hand at composing music.

And it's bloody hard. No idea how the old timers did it but I take my hat off to them.

Summery: There is always life in a Brass Band ... sometimes you have to dig deep to find it.
