Auxiliary Band

Tauranga City Brass Auxiliary was formed in early 2023 by Annabelle Stewart to fill an unmet need in our community for school age students and returning adults to have an opportunity to play music in a group setting and to continue learning musicianship. With a focus on catering to all ages and stages, the band plays a variety of different styles of music which are both challenging and engaging.  While the band is still new and growing we are still very active playing concerts and holding social events. Over the next few years we are looking to attend both regional and national contest as D Grade band.

The band practices weekly on Monday nights from 5.30 - 7 pm.

Conductor - Annabelle Stewart

Annabelle started playing music at age 7, learning the recorder, violin, piano, guitar and trumpet. Since 2016, she has been a playing member of the Tauranga City Brass Band and has participated in groups like the Bay of Plenty Symphonia and Rhapsody Rotorua Honours Concert Band. She was selected for the National Secondary Schools Brass Band in 2016 and 2017, the New Zealand Youth Symphonic Winds in 2017 and 2018, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra's National Mentoring Program in 2018. In 2021, she represented the National Youth Brass Band.

With over 9 years of teaching music both privately and as an itinerant teacher Annabelle has a vast array of knowledge and passion for inspiring students. She is currently employed by Tauranga Intermediate School teaching woodwind and brass and at ACG Tauranga co-teaching a year 7 band program, directing a marimba group and teaching itinerant lessons in woodwind and brass.

Annabelle also runs a very busy private teaching studio "Annabelle's Music Academy" and is actively looking for more schools to work with.
